Quality is a MUST at Regional Medical Center

At Regional we are committed to clinical, operational and service excellence, and are proud of our record of providing high quality healthcare services that our patients and community demands. We focus every day on continuous quality improvement (CQI), innovations in patient safety and evaluating our performance using national benchmarks.

In our efforts to improve hospital quality, we depend on collaboration of employees, physicians, volunteers and leadership teams to continue to improve clinical outcomes and patient outcomes.

Accreditations & Awards

Regional participates in many voluntary accreditations programs using rigorous standards to evaluate hospital quality.

At Regional, we know that patients and families are looking for more information to help them judge hospital quality objectively. That is why we have partnered with sister hospital Good Samaritan Hospital as part of a continuing conversation with the community through a series of published reports.

There are several reliable consumer websites where you can gather information about Regional and most importantly, compare our process with other hospitals in the area. Regional is a top performer in process measures and clinical outcomes.

Regional Medical Center recognized as one of America's 250 Best Hospitals

The federal agency that oversees Medicare and MediCal programs sponsors Hospital Compare. This website measures hospital performance on key steps in the treatment of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. Patient satisfaction data is also available on this site to review and compare.

Regional ranks above national averages for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care composite scores. Regional is ranked among the top 14 performing U.S. hospitals with the lowest heart failure mortality rates. Regional's rate of 30-day mortality for heart failure is 7.8, compared to the national rate of 11.7. See how we compare with other hospitals in the community on Hospital Compare.

The Joint Commission (TJC) organization uses a different rating system than Hospital Compare. Using the TJC criteria, Regional ranks above average on heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. The Leapfrog Group is a consortium of employers who are among the largest purchasers of health plans nationally. Their interests are effectiveness and efficiency in the use of their healthcare dollars with a strong focus on patient safety. Their benchmarks for outcomes and patient safety are becoming well-known to consumers.

Providing information to the Leapfrog Group is completely voluntary and only 25 percent of all hospitals in the county choose to participate. Regional is one of those hospitals and we believe that participating gives us an important avenue to communicate our progress on clinical outcomes and patient safety.

In patient safety ratings, Regional ranked well above average, nationally. We have fully implemented patient safety initiatives including 24/7 ICU physician staffing, steps to avoid harm and inpatient injuries, reducing medication errors and reducing ICU infections.
