Regional Medical Center Recognized as one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals, 100 Best Hospitals for Critical Care, and for Excellence in Stroke Care
San Jose, CA – Regional Medical Center is one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals, which puts it in the top 5 percent of hospitals in the nation consistently delivery clinical quality according to new research released by Healthgrades, a leading resource connecting consumers, physicians and health systems.
Regional Medical Center also received America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Critical Care Award™ which recognizes hospitals with superior clinical outcomes in treating pulmonary embolism, respiratory system failure, sepsis, and diabetic emergencies, and the Stroke Care Excellence Award™ which recognizes a hospital with superior clinical outcomes in the care and treatment of stroke.
“Our talented, dedicated teams strive every day to provide high-quality, safe care to our communities” said Ken West, President and Chief Executive Officer of Regional Medical Center. “These three awards stand as a testament to that unwavering commitment, and we’re proud of this recognition. I also want to thank all our physicians, nurses and care teams for their hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence.”
According to Healthgrades, from 2018-2020, patients treated in one of the top 250 hospitals on average had a 27.8 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award, as measured across 17 rated conditions and procedures where mortality is the outcome. If all hospitals as a group performed similarly to ones achieving the award, on average, 160,256 lives could potentially have been saved, Healthgrades said.
“Now more than ever, patients are looking for a place they can trust to receive quality care,” said Tarannum Guller, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Regional Medical Center. “These three awards demonstrate to our current and future patients our commitment to delivering excellent care and continuous improvements throughout our organization.”
In 2019, Regional Medical Center received the Patient Safety Excellence Award™, which goes to the top hospitals in the nation providing excellence in patient safety by preventing infections, medical errors, and other preventable complications. In 2020, the hospital received five 5-star ratings for leading conditions and patient outcomes, also from Healthgrades.
For this year’s analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance in 31 common conditions and procedures and evaluated outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 16 states. Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (not statistically different from expected), and 1-star (statistically significantly worse than expected).
