Recognition

Regional Medical Center of San Jose is certified as an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission in collaboration with the American Heart Association (AHA)/American Stroke Association (ASA). We are also designated by Santa Clara County as an ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) Receiving Center, meaning we treat the most severe type of heart attack.

Emergency heart attack intervention

We are proud to be designated by Santa Clara County as a STEMI receiving center. This means our emergency care physicians and cardiologists are experts in heart attack care and treat the most severe type of heart attack.

When a patient arrives in our ER with heart attack symptoms, we quickly assess their condition. We use digital imaging technology in the cardiac catheterization laboratory to determine if an artery is blocked. If a heart attack is confirmed, we provide fast treatment to open up the blocked artery and restore proper blood flow.

Fast stroke treatment

A stroke is a serious medical emergency that requires immediate medical attention. Once the symptoms of a stroke are identified, the sooner you receive emergency care the better.

We treat hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes in our ER. We also have a dedicated neurological intensive care unit (neuro-ICU) where patients receive specialized care from our neurological specialists as they recover.

Trauma care

Our hospital is a verified Level II Trauma Center, which means we are designated by Santa Clara County to care for the most critically injured patients. While our ER treats patients with conditions such as heart attacks and minor bone breaks, the trauma center treats the most severely injured patients.
