Regional's New Emergency Department Dedication

San Jose, CA — Regional Medical Center of San Jose dedicated its new and expanded Emergency Room today, after the completion of a 3-year expansion and renovation project.

The new ED has several features that will increase patient efficiency and improve patient satisfaction, including 43 treatment rooms, 2 state-of-the-art Cardiac rooms and Trauma rooms.

“This project was a collaborative effort with our physicians and staff, who continued to treat more than 2-hundred ED patients each day during the construction project,” said Mike Johnson, Regional's President and Chief Operating Officer. “The ED renovation was part of Regional's $350-million expansion that included a new 4-story hospital tower that opened January 2014.”

The project added approximately 45-hundred square feet of space to the ED. Patients are greeted in a spacious reception area, designed with calm and healing colors.

Regional, a Level 2 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center and Heart-Attack Receiving Center, treats more than 75-thousand emergency patients each year from Santa Clara and surrounding counties.

"As one of the busiest emergency rooms and Trauma Centers in the region, Regional sees the most seriously ill and injured patients," says ED Medical Director Elaine Nelson. "Our new facilities will help us better meet the emergency medical needs of our community through advanced technology and patient-focused care."
