San Jose, CA -Regional Medical Center of San Jose now offers patients The HeartCare™ Channel, a new venture from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association in conjunction with The Wellness Network. The channel delivers round-the-clock educational programming designed to empower heart and stroke patients to better manage their own care and recovery to live longer, healthier lives. Through The Wellness Network, Regional patients are also offered a Newborn channel, MedSerenity channel and programs about cancer, diabetes, pain management and more. Programs can be accessed on tablets, through an online portal and on a dedicated in-facility TV channel. The on-demand feature allows patients to view programs via internet while they’re in the hospitals as well as when they go home.

"Regional is proud to offer this unique opportunity to enhance the educational engagement between our patients and their caregivers at a time when they're most in need of key information, and highly motivated to take action to improve their health," said Mike Johnson, President and CEO of Regional. "We think this will encourage discussion among patients, their families and their doctors. Those discussions can improve understanding of the patient's condition, steps to improve their recovery, and reduce the risk of their readmission."

In a recent survey of patients accessing programming from The Wellness Network:

  • 99 percent said they learned about important health issues
  • 97 percent said the information helped them make decisions about their health
  • 90 percent were receptive to receiving information about lifestyle changes, which is key to influencing modifiable risk factors, and
  • 71 percent felt the information from the channel made their condition less intimidating.

The HeartCare Channel will feature current educational content from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association and The Wellness Network, as well as newly created programming providing information and resources for the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease and stroke. Patients can pick the specific programs they want to view via the on-demand function.

“We strive to provide our patients with the best resources available to help them achieve optimal health,” Mike Johnson, President and CEO of Regional, said. “We’re excited to now have The HeartCare Channel to add to our offerings.”
