San Jose, CA (June 16 2015) – Regional Medical Center of San Jose announced today that it has achieved the Healthgrades 2015 Women’s Health Excellence Award™ according to Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. The recognition places Regional in the top 10-percent in the nation for women’s health.
“Regional is committed to excellence in patient care, quality and safety, not only in the area of women’s health, but in every healthcare specialty,” said Mike T. Johnson, FACHE, President and CEO of Regional Medical Center of San Jose. “We are very proud of this and our most recent accolades from Healthgrades, which includes the 2015 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™.”
“The identification and treatment of medical conditions for women is very different than diagnosing and treating men, therefore it is vitally important that women understand their risks and select a hospital accordingly,” said Evan Marks, Chief Strategy Officer, Healthgrades. “The Healthgrades 2015 Women’s Health Excellence Award recipients have demonstrated exceptional performance and a dedicated approach to delivering superior quality care for women.”
Healthgrades 2015 Women’s Health Excellence Award recipient hospitals have the potential to save women’s lives. For the report, Healthgrades compared Women’s Health Excellence Award recipients as a group, to those hospitals eligible for the award but did not receive it, as a group, and found from 2011-2013:
- Women undergoing procedures where complications are the measured outcome at recipient hospitals, have, on average a 9.6% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated by hospitals which did not receive the award. *
- Women being treated for mortality based conditions at recipient hospitals have, for in-hospital mortality, on average a 31.6% lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals which did not receive the award.*
“We are thrilled to receive this distinction, which recognizes our commitment to women’s health,” said Alvin Haynes, MD, Regional’s Chief Medical Officer. “In addition to advanced cardiovascular and gynecologic care, including a comprehensive breast care center, the hospital recently opened a new tower which includes private rooms and delivery suites, a beautiful nursery and Level II NICU. This recognition offers strong validation of our quality of care and expertise to help prevent unnecessary complications for women.”
