Regional Cancer Program Open House

Regional Medical Center Showcases New Comprehensive Oncology Services

San Jose, CA- April 7, 2016-Regional Medical Center of San Jose, an American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer (CoC) Community Cancer Program and designated Lung Cancer Screening Center, premiered it’s patient-focused new comprehensive oncology services April 7th. Area physicians, staff and visitors attended Regional’s Cancer Program Open House, which included guided tours of the Center including the Bi-Plane, Breast Care Center and Cancer Care Institute (CCI) located on Regional’s campus.

Regional’s Chief of Staff and Medical Director of Cancer Services, Morteza Dowlatshahi, MD, welcomed the attendees. “At Regional Medical Center, we believe that in providing patients and physicians with increasingly advanced technology, keeping them on the cutting edge of treatment research and encouraging the dissemination and sharing of information, we will continue to make strides in the war on cancer,” he said.

Other speakers included Regional’s President and CEO, Mike Johnson, Ly Do, MD, Raymond Lee, MD and two cancer survivors.

Regional’s Radiology Department recently completed a department-wide renovation of the latest equipment including a  low-dose CT scanner, which is used for the early detection of lung cancer, two 64 slice CT scanners, a new radiographic/fluoroscopy system and MRI Neurologic and Brain scans. In addition, advanced diagnostic techniques, including an Electromagnetic Navigation System (ENB) and Endobronchial Ultrasound Bronchoscopy (EBUS) support Interventional Pulmonologists to diagnose lung cancer in its early stages.

Regional’s advanced Interventional Radiology team provides minimally invasive image-guided treatment techniques for all organ systems affected by cancer.

“We understand that a cancer diagnosis can be scary and confusing,” says Dowlatshahi. “Regional offers an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), “Nurse Navigator,” to those diagnosed with cancer to help guide and support our patients through their treatment options and available resources.”

“So many of us are touched by cancer in some way during our lifetime,” said Mike Johnson. “I’m proud that Regional is dedicated to providing cancer patients access to the most leading-edge technology and treatments available.”
